The Worcester Cathedral is considered the most beautiful cathedral in England, situated on a bank overlooking the River Severn, with breathtaking architecture, steeped in history.
The cathedral we know now was founded in 680 as a Priory, the original priory was built in this time period however, nothing now remains of it due to Kind Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries. Although, the crypt, built by St Wulstan, dates back from the 10th century, and is noted as being the largest Norman crypt in Britain. For a scenic and historical afternoon, the Worcester cathedral is a worthwhile place to visit. |

Sir Edward Elgar was an English composer, born and raised in an idyllic country cottage within Worcestershire and grew to international fame with masterpieces including Salut d’amour, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches (March No.1, more popularly known as ‘Land of Hope and Glory’), and the Enigma Variations, to name a few. These and many other pieces of work have entered the British and International classical concert repertoire.
As an iconic figure and an artistic inspiration within England he was honoured with his portrait appearing on the twenty-pound banknote for a period of eleven years, from 1999 to 2010, alongside the Worcester Cathedral. The Elgar Birthplace Museum offers a unique look into the life of one of England’s greatest composers with an unrivalled collection of manuscripts, diaries, letters, press cuttings, photographs, personal possessions and concert programmes, you will once and for all get to know the man behind the music.
